Dr. Musmanno graduated Magna Cum Laude, Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Pittsburgh with a B.S. in Biochemistry in 1977 and received his M. D. degree from the University of Pittsburgh in 1981. He Served in the United States Navy from 1981 through 1990. Dr. Musmanno completed an internship in General Surgery at the Naval Hospital San Diego, San Diego, California and then served as the Medical Officer aboard the USS Duluth LPD-6 where he was awarded the Naval Commendation Medal. He then completed this urology residency at the Naval Hospital San Diego in 1987 after which, he practiced Urology at the Naval Air Station Jacksonville, Jacksonville, Florida from 1987 through 1990 where he was awarded his second Navy Commendation Medal. He holds an Honorary Placement on the Retired Reserve List as Commander Medical Corps USNR.
During his 21 years in Western Pennsylvania, he has served as the Chairman of Urology at Shadyside Hospital and was a Clinical Instructor of Urology for UPMC. Dr. Musmanno completed the Advanced Training Program in Health Care Delivery Improvement through the Intermountain Health Care Institute for Health Care Delivery Research, Salt Lake City, Utah in 2000. He was certified by the American Board of Urology in 1989 and was recertified in 1997 and again in 2007. He now enjoys a full time private practice of Urology at Butler Memorial Hospital, Butler, PA where he serves as the Chairman of the Bylaws Committee. He has been the elected President of the Urologic Associates of Western Pennsylvania since 2002.
