Dr Gup graduated from Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, PA with a B.A. in Biology & Psychology and graduated with an M.D. from University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. From 1984 to 1990 he completed an internship and his residency in urology at Barnes Hospital, St. Louis, Missouri. Dr Gup’s current hospital appointments include UPMC St Margaret Memorial Hospital, Pittsburgh, PA and Butler Memorial Hospital, Butler, PA. He received his Board Certification in urology in 1992 and is a member of the American Urological Association, American Medical Association and Component Associations, Northeastern Section, American Urological Associations, Urological Association of Pennsylvania and the Pittsburgh Urologic Association. He also has received numerous honors including The First Honorable Mention AUA Prize Essay Contest, National Kidney Foundation American Urological Association Fellow, Washington University Aronberg Urology Prize, Carnegie Mellon University Biological Sciences Award for Scholastic, Achievement and Research, Mortar Board Honor Society Member and Psi Chi Honor Society Member. Dr Gup’s abstracts presented include Alpha-1 adrenoceptors in men with symptomatic and asymptomatic benign prostatic hypertrophy, Muscarinic cholinergic receptors in the normal and neurogenic human bladder, Intravesical BCG therapy: A prospective randomized comparison of 6 versus 12 week treatment regimens, Miscarinic cholinergic receptors in normal pediatric and meylodysplastic bladders. He is married with two children.
